Expired Certificates

Stephen

Hello.

I have several expired certificates in my Internet
Explorer 6.x Tools/Internet
Options/Content/Certificates area, specifically in the
Intermediate Certification Authorities and Trusted Root
Certification Authorities sections.

Can I delete the expired certificates without causing
problems?

Also, can I add them back after deleting them, and, if so,
how?

Thank you for your reply.

It's difficult to say whether it's safe to delete them. It's possible to
that they were used to issue end certificates before they expired. It's
also possible that those end certificates are still considered valid for
some purposes. They wouldn't be without the intermediate cert, though.

You're probably better off leaving them where they are - if there are only a
few of them it won't really degrade performance.

If you really really really want to try removing them, you can export them
to .cer files before you delete. If you have any problems after they're
deleted from your cert store, you can dbl click on the .cer file to start
its install wizard.
