Another one bites the dust. . .

Program: BatchFTP
Author: (Narendra Chandel)
Ware: (Freeware)
http://www.batchftp.com

but. . .

http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/BatchFTP/1021601601/1

says shareware and. . .

http://www.ensware.com/BatchFTP/BatchFTPHistory.html

says. . .

<q>
BatchFTP 6.9.9.99
This was the last FREE version of software. After that in view of coping
with high development and maintaince cost it became necessary to put a
nominal cost for its use. So version 7.0.0.1 came into picture which has
all new GUI, a lot of extra features and many bugs from previous
versions got fix.
</q>

So y'all know what the drill is now. ;)

BFTPSetUp.exe or BFTPSetup.exe or BFTPSetup.zip

dunno the size but around 1 MB

It may be the last *available* version.

It's certainly not the LFV

From the installers EULA

"Currently BatchFTP is a free software. But for un iterrupted use you must register it. Registration is totally FREE. There are no charges directly or indirectly."

Both of the versions I downloaded have this........

Ah, too bad. This app may be lost to the freeware world. . .

Hi Lius - BatchFTP - supposed to be a fairly intuitive, easy to use ftp
client. These are earlier, free, versions still available.

YW, Lius - I wasn't promoting it - I've never used it and don't know
anything about it - just responding to a request for links to these older,
still free, versions. :)

AFAICT all the free versions are crippled if they aren't registered -
presumably that means a product key of some kind is needed. IOW - I
think this Freeware app is effectively gone. . .

You are correct Susan. I copied this from there now defunct site using
the Wayback Machine. You may also take note at the known problem that
appears to have never been fixed:

Registration

First you submit your information to the product server, so we can
send a registration code to the email address you provide.

Run BatchFTP, and from the Help menu select Registration and then
click Register Now . Enter your information and click OK. You will
receive your unique registration code via email within 24 hours. (In most
cases it is less than 45 minutes).

Registration codes can be used only once, so you cannot share it with
other users. It will only work for you on one machine, so separate
machines would require separate registrations.

One Time Verification

After we send you your unique registration code to the email address
you have provided, you must verify it with our server.

Run BatchFTP, and from the Help menu select Registration and then
click Enter Registration code... A dialog box will appear asking you to
enter your registration code. Copy&paste the registration code from the
email to the dialog box, and hit ok.

Known Issue:
Those who don't have IE 6.0 or more installed may see a run time error,
when they save a batch file. There is nothing directly we can do to
resolve it. We are looking at it for now if you see this issue please
install IE 6.0 or higher to your computer.

Very helpful. Thanks Zo. :)

The ACF definition of freeware includes "that you may use. . . for as
long as you wish".

IMO this kind of Registerware is quite a different story from
Registerware that simply requires some information before allowing you
to download the program - ISTM there's a good chance you *won't* be able
to use the app for as long as you wish.

IMO this is closer to Trialware than "normal" Registerware. . .

I knew BatchFTP was Registerware when I asked about a LFW version -
didn't realize it had this kind of restriction. Perhaps we should use a
different "ware" name for apps that key the program to a specific
machine or email address etc. etc. etc.

Annoyanceware ? OneHDDware ? This apparently is the way the Serif
programs work too. Ensuring that I won't buy their products. I don't
want to have to re-register every time I change my HDD.

If buying software I would rather pay more money and avoid this form
of irritation.
