expanding favourites in IE

Guest

help please. i recently had to reformat my pc. In IE 6, when i click on the
favourites button, my favourites appear on my left (panel). And when i click
on any folder to expand, it would open immediately. Now, when i click to
expand a folder, it takes ages....like 20 seconds.

I know this isnt normal and there are at times when i'm in a rush to go on a
site thats in my favourites, i find myself waiting and waiting till the
folder finally decides to open. This is the same with all my folders in my
favourites.

Help appreciated.

What other software is running on your system? Have you tried disabling
everything else, except for firewall, to see if an improvement can be noted?

I'm not sure what else i'm supposed to disable. I only have java, my
firewall, and my antivirus. It happens when i have nothing else running like
programs etc. I can expand the folders immediately as normal when not
connected to the net. But once i connect and try to open the folders, i have
to wait. I sometimes have to click several times and just wait. It is getting
quite annoying now as i use my favourites a lot. Any suggestions appreciated.

Alex,

Forgive me Alex, but I would have thought "everything else, except firewall"
is quite descriptive. Did you try disabling your antivirus to see if that
fixes your problem.

I suspect that something is taking up a lot of CPU cycles when you are
online that is dormant when you are offline - do you have anything at all?
Web accelerators?
