Exit from Split Screen mode

I am doing work that frequently requires use of the split pane mode. However,
once in a while I need to go back to a full, single pane. Frustratingly,
instead of reverting to single pane at the place I've put the cursor (usually
somewhere in the top pane) Word ALWAYS repositions the cursor to the pane
that is nearest the end of the document and makes that the active single
pane. I haven't been able to find a workaround for this one, but then I
really shouldn't need to; the cursor should stay where it was placed and the
single pane should take me to that point regardless of whether I'm working in
top or bottom pane when switching.
Has anyone else found a workaround?

Hi Dave,

Instead of using the Window > Remove Split command, drag the split bar
to either the top of the window (if you're working in the lower pane)
or the bottom of the window (if you're in the upper pane). When you
hit the top or bottom, the split disappears and the cursor is left at
the current position in the pane you've enlarged.

In addition to Jay's suggestion...I use the split a lot, too. I always
just double click on the split to remove it and yes, it's a PITA to be
moved. But if you hit Shift+F5, you go back to your last
location...which will take you to where you last make a move in the
doc. I've gotten into the habit of doing this and found it to work
nicely.
