I am using Windows 2000 Pro (sp4).
there are a number of programs that, upon being started,
will generate the following error message:
"*.exe has generated errors, and will be closed by
Windows. You should restart the program."

To date, I haven't seen this error message listed in this
forum. Some of the programs that won't start-up are Word
(from Office 97 although Excel, Power Point, etc. work
find); ACDsee (version 3.5 I believe); OmniPage Pro
(version 8).

Additionally, AOL will generate this same problem
occasionally. I will have to uninstall the "netweork
adaptor", clear the cache, and reboot, and them it works
fine for a while.

My video capture software programs don't work.
Additional, there are more that will display this message.

I have reinstalled the various programs more than once,
and this hasn't changed the problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With so many different symptoms, the obvious possible common thread would
be corrupt system file(s)....eliminate this factor by running SFC /SCANNOW
from the command prompt
Also, you should see if you can find updated hardware (video, NIC, printer)
drivers from the vendor website.
Also, scan for spyware/malware and viruses

Do these errors occur if you boot the machine into Safe Mode?
