.exe files wont delete

i have a couple of .exe files that i downloaded by mistake and i cant delete
these files. I get a message saying that this file is being used by a program
and that i should close the program but i dont know which programs could be
using these files please help to delete these files

Try deleting the files in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode, repeatedly
tap the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to the
proper menu.
