.exe file extensions

I have accidentaly replaced .exe file extensions with another
now all programs open with this program and dont run.

I cant access regedit either

How can I get my programs to open with .exe file extensions

Do you mean you've renamed all your .exe files with some other extension ?

Thanks for your help, tried what you suggested,but it didnt
work.
I think the problem started when i tried to open a program
using "open with" and the box was ticked " always use this
program to open these files"
