Excluding some contacts from syncing

I have some contacts in Outlook that I really don't need on my PPC. How do
exclude a contact from syncing?
 
Give them a category, then in Activesync contact settings, elect to not synch that category.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. All
unsolicited mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without
reading.

I already have categories set up, but AS doesn't give me any settings to
change. The settings button will not light up like it does for notes or
email.
