Exchanging data between Linux and Excel

I'm looking for a simple, ideally open source solution, that will enable

me to invoke UNIX/LINUX commands from within Excel/VB and exchange data
between Excel and Linux.

Any help much appreciated.
 
Do Windows and Unix operate within the same computer?

Does your implementation allow you establish a shared drive that both
systems can access?
