Exchange Scan Problems with .ZIP Files

We are having a small issue here... Daily we have a few EDI Files which are
zipped and password protected with WinZip 9.0 and then emailed to 2 of our
users. When these files show up in their inbox their outlook freezes... They
are both using Outlook 2002. This same issue occurs in Outlook 2003.

We narrowed the problem down to a few things, Either it is Virus Scan, we
are using VS 8.0i from McAfee... or it is Exchange Scan... I couldn't find
any information on Exchange Scan.

If I Disable the On-access Scanning of emails via Virus Scan and then send
these files, I have no problems. If I disable Exchange Scan in the Outlook
Add-ins, and leave VS working, I get the files without issue... However, we
cannot have either of these turned off... WE MUST scan files as we receive
viruses daily, we also must have exchange scan enabled as well, it comes down
from the heads of our exchange server...

Does anyone have any insight on this whatsoever? Any similar issues? This is
really annoying that it freezes outlook for these small .zip files, they are
no more then 400K either.

Exchange scan is a 3rd party addin - not installed by Exchange. Find out
what antivirus software installed it. Do you really need both scanners? It's
posislbe both are trying ot scan it at once and because it's large, it takes
too long and causes outlook to hang.

They should be scanning the mail before it gets to the mailbox so that
viruses aren't put in the mailboxes, then you wouldn't need to scan the
messages twice.

The only ANITVIRUS Software we have is Virus Scan 8.0i... Is it possible that
the Exchange Scan in Outlook is referring to the VirusScan?

Email is scanned before it get's to the inbox, HOWEVER, these are internal
emails therefore are handled MUCH differently than other emails... We cannot
send or receive emails with .ZIP files from outside the organization, but any
email that comes from inside can have a .zip in it....

The scan that Virus Scan does is on-access, it is a default setting and for
internal email is the only scan we do.

Also if you would notice what I wrote in the first post, the files are
extremely small, never more than 400K and usually a lot smaller than that...
I also made note that the only scanner we have on our boxes is Virus Scan,
that would be the only possible way Exchange Scan would get in as an
add-in... but if Virus Scan puts it there, why would it bother to scan it
twice?
