Exchange logon fails from broadband NOT modem

When connecting from a hotel broadband through a Microsoft PPTP VPN
connection, Outlook 2002 fails to authenticate to Exchange 2000 server. MSM
5.0 to Exchange does same thing: prompt for username/password/domain but
always rejects entry for muliple accounts. The PC is Windows 2000 with all
current SP and patches.

The same PC has no trouble access file servers, the VPN, and Outlook Web
Access using the same username.

The same PC worked well on the same hotel broadband before.

The same PC connects with no issues from Outlook 2002 when connecting
through a dialup Internet connection through the same Microsoft PPTP VPN.

The same username/password/domain works with Oultook 2002 from other PCs
directly on the LAN.

The only PC change we can find is the most current Critical Update from
WindowsUpdate, which I believe is the MDAC patch KB832483.

I have yet to:
1. remove that patch, or
2. have user create another local Windows 2000 userID and profile.

Anyone have other ideas that might account for the Internet connection
affecting just Outlook/Exchange authentication through a VPN?

'had no luck resolving this, but making sure that:
1. user's wired NIC is only interface in use
2. LAN interface not enabled for Client for Microsoft Networks or
File&Printer Sharing
.... so there are no netbios routing issue, plus I will have him
3. nbtstat -R
4. ipconfig /release
5. ipconfig /renew
6. ipconfig /flushdns

The same PC/user/logon/vpn connection worked from another hotel broadband
wired connection so the issue is related to the pc on the particular shared
broadband...
