Exchange 5.5 will not migrate-moving from NT to AD

I am using the ADMT 2.0. I can move user and computers
over without errors, but when I try to move service
accounts, exchange acounts or security translation it does
not update. I cannot get exchange 5.5 to migrate from our
old NT domain to 2000 AD. Am I missing a step? Is there
another tool I need to use to migrate exchange? What do I
need to do to get our mail server to update to our new AD
domain controller?

For Exchange 55, you either need to use the ExMerge tool or the ADC.

The ADC will update the user account info into AD without ADMT. If not using
the ADC, then you can use the ADMT and ExMerge to move the mailboxes into
the new Exchange 2000 server (assuming this is what you';re doing). You
can't use them both since dupe accounts will get created.

If not upgrating/migrating to Ex2k too, then the ADC will suffice.

Here's a link to read up on the ADC if you;re not ready to upgrade/migrate
to Ex2k but want to get the user accounts into AD from Exchange.

Post this to the Exchange newsgroups to get more specific information on how
to migrate/upgrade Exchange, move mailboxes and/or users in your scenario.

Here's another thought.

create two way trust between nt and win2k
Create new account in AD that will be your new 5.5 service
account.

There is a Q article in the MS KB that explains how to
change the 5.5 service account. It involves adding this
new account as service account admin at all three levels
in Exchange admin, changing service startup account and
also going into raw mode in Exchange admin and changing
another permission I forget that last part but it's in the
kb

Hi Joe,

Good idea. Here's some links below on how to deal with the service account.
I still think he forgot a step using the ADC in his scenario. But either
way, hope he gets it straightened out.
