Exchange 5.5 in the AD

Mr. Babco

Hi everyone,
I have NT 4.0 with Exhange 5.5. I plan to do an in place upgrade of the
domain and keep the Exchange 5.5 machine in place for a few weeks after the
upgrade and then migrate the users to that excahnge server/AD. Should I be
using a connector between the AD and the Exchange 5.5 directory or can they
exist independently?

Thanks for any insight. Also any suggested procedures for the migration
from exhange 5.5 to 2000 would be helpful.

thanks

Let me clarify - I goofed up on one detail. After a few weeks I will be
migrating the exchange 5.5 users etc. to an exhange 2000 server. Everything
else is correct.

thanks

I would suggest that you go to the MS Web Site for the details of this. I
wish that I had the link readily available but there should be plenty of
information for this.

A few tips:

I would strongly suggest that you install the Active Directory Connector.
Use the ADC from the Exchange Service Pack 3.

I would also suggest that you change the default port from 389 to 390 ( as
described in the many articles that you will find ). There are actually two
places that you will make this change. It has been a really long time since
I have done this so I can not tell you exactly where you will do this from
memory. You will be doing this in the Exchange 5.5 Manager....

I would look into the three possible ways to migrate from Exchange 5.5 to
Exchange 2000. There is a ton of documentation on this as well.

Also, I might suggest that you post this to the Exchange Admins News Group.
Or better yet, do a search in there. I know that there is ample material
there as well.

You will need to use the ADC from Exchange (SP3 or later). That will give
Exchange the means to replicate with AD.

Also - why waste time migrating to Exchange 2000 when Exchange 2003 is
ready?
