Exchange 5.5 on NT4

Hi All

Just to confirm, I'm not really sure if I'm correct.
I have single NT4 domain, and single Exchange 5.5 running on NT4 member
server.
I want to move to AD, (upgrade PDC) and keep for now mix mode.
Do I need anything for exchange to work? I know it need to be SP3 but
anything else?

Thx

Yes, you will need the Active Directory Connector ( or affectionately called
the ADC ). I would suggest that you use the ADC from the Exchange Service
Pack 3 CD Media.

So, why do you need this? Remember that in WINNT 4.0 / Exchange 5.5 there
are the two databases: the SAM for WINNT 4.0 and then the Exchange 5.5
database. Remember that you have two accounts, as well. You have to create
everything in the Exchange Database and then 'pair it off' with an existing
WINNT 4.0 account. This changes completely in WIN2000 / WIN2003. Active
Directory now does this all.

Also, remember that you will need to change the port on which ldap listens
in the Exchange Server Manager ( typically from port 389 to port 390 - there
is a MSKB Article for this.... ).

HTH,

Cary
