This is a followup message to one tht evidently got lost.
I'm running XP on a 64 bit Athlon CPU. Igb memory.
Lately my computer has been taking three or four minutes to boot. I
pulled a bootlog and found that it was enormously long, about 250K, 50 so so
single spaced pages when printed. More than 90% of the entries were "did not
load ..."
I've check disked, defragmented, and run updated Norton anti virus and
also the Win doctor. The computer is still doing it. What's going on?
If someone answered the first question, I never got it. The email link
didn't work, and I couldn't find the thread. Please try again.

What error reports (if any) are to be found in Event Viewer?

Make an exact note of the precise text of any error message. Minor
discrepancies can
make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Links giving some information about specific Error Reports are:

Hope this helps.

Gerry,
Many thanks for the reply. I had already tried event viewer, and there
were no error messages nor anything that I could see that would be useful.
Except for the fact that there are so very many non-loaded lines,
occasionally fifty to a hundred without any actual loads, there aren't any
signs that much is wrong. No sign of any invasion; however, i've run only
Norton Anti Virus to check that.

Gerry,
Here are a few typical lines from the bootlog

Loaded driver Mup.sys
Did not load driver ACPI Uniprocessor PC
Did not load driver Audio Codecs
Did not load driver dmload.sys
Did not load driver dmio.sys
Did not load driver PartMgr.sys

These were not in the order I typed them. There are literally hundreds more,
and if I could copy and paste, I would send you many more. There are probably
twenty "Did not load" for every one "lLoaded driver"

Thanks for your help,

erussell
