Excell (Student edition) runs very slow - big lag times

Anyone else having this problem? I don't know if it is because I upgraded my
XP system to the recent Service Pack 2.

Initial selection of some commands and functions take a long time for the
cursor to return. I haveused up my two free troublshooting opportunities
with the almighty Microsoft

maybe the virus scanner causes this. Quite sure nothing to do with the
student edition
