Hi george
When this happened to me, it was because of the problem of long path names associated with some of the files. I was using a folder name Spreadsheets and simply changed it to SS. Voila. Now I can get into options. Hope this will work for you.
Rod
I beg your pardon if I'm missing something obvious, Rod... but how can you get into Options to change the default from Spreadsheets to SS if it crashes on you?
I'm having a similar problem, but I think it MIGHT be because our default folder was deleted... and we're not 100% sure what the folder name was.
Hi Rainmaker
You sure could get a lot of job offers here in this part of our country... Hi Seriously, All I had to do was go to Windows Explorer and rename the Directory (Folder) to SS from Spreadsheets. Then the next time I opened Excel, it worked, and I could get into Tools and Options. It is worth the effort to make a review of all the folders that you had any Excel files in and make sure there are no long folder(s) names But, your problem may be different since you may have lost a folder. Have you considered reinstalling Excel?
