Purchased dell desktop. Where is the excel software?? I
found word , but not excel..
I'm going crazy..

Ask Dell. Word and Excel have nothing to do with XP, they are part of
Microsoft Office.

Greetings

Excel has never been a part of the Windows OS. You will most likely need to
purchase the program.

Excel is not included with the Windows XP operating system.
You may purchase either Microsoft Office or Excel at fine
computer stores virtually anywhere.

Greetings --

Did you ask the Excel be included, and pay extra for it? It won't
be there, otherwise.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

Word can be a part of the MS Office suite, or part of MS Works Suite, or an
independent program. It is not part of Windows and never has been.
Excel is an independent program, or part of the MS Office suite. Unless you
paid Dell to put it on your computer, you don't have it.
Office and Works are common options with Dell computers, but you do have to
pay extra to get them.

Your new Dell came with Works Suite which includes MS Word, however,
Excel is not included. You'll either have to purchase it separately
or as part of MS Office. However, if you would like to try a free
alternative to Excel, go here:

Also www.openoffice.org offers a free open-source office suite that can
read and write Word and Excel files.

It's a full-featured package. StarOffice from Sun Microsystems is built
from the same codebase.

which is the way it really is as far as I can tell. It doesn't frighten me.
