Excel - Works

It probably depends on the versions used.

I have Excel 2002 and Works 7.0. I can open an Excel file in the Works Spreadsheet with no problem, by selecting Excel SS (*.xl*) in the Open dialog box.

No. But there is a free viewer for them, which might be useful:

I can't speak for previous versions, but Works Spreadsheet version 7 (included in Works Suite 2003) will open and save the Excel worksheets.

You could also download Star Office. It is free and you will be
to read as well as manipulate the spread sheets.
