Excel workbook in word lost object office 2003

I am having a problem with a quote template that I have created in word with
a excel workbook placed inside. After about 10 minutes of working on it I am
unablke to make any changes to the excel spreaadsheet with in this document.
It tell me the object is damaged orr lost. I have tried recreating this
document from scrath several times but thee problem still persists!
Any potential solutions welcome!

Instead of embedded spreadsheets in Words try usuing a linked
spreadsheet. Take the output cell or table you want to include in Word,
copy it from Excel and paste it into Word "linked". Choose the
appropriate format (can be Excel object or a picture format. Now every
update in Excel is automatically updated in Word. Please note that
moving the Excel file to another directory requires the Word file to be
open, otherwise Word cannot locate the Excel data. In quotations, you
may like to c/p as linked, as "unformatted text". In this way, you can
put a variable in the middle of a sentence, for example "We can give you
a personal discount rate of 15%." (The "unformatted text" option ensures
that the formatting of the destination (the Word) is assumed, so the 15%
isn't recognized as a result of a calculation by the receiver. The 15%
in this example can be in the Excel file, as a result of a calculation
or any criteria that determines the discount rate. Of course you can
develop your own applications. One issue to remember: Paste as link
can create hugh files, so be carefult not to overdo.
