Excel & Word 2007 on Vista close unexpededly

I suddenly started having a problem with excel freezing when I tried to
modify a spread sheet specifically "format cell". On word it just won't open,
get a pop up box that says "Microsoft Word has stopped working, that is the
same message that pops up when I try to modifyy excel. I have uninstalled &
re installed office Home & Student. I have removed "ALL" of my Virus
Protection Products, ZONE ALARM, and AVG free. This happens if I open it
from desktop or from programs. Can anyone HELP PLEASE! I did run lap top on
safe mode and it worked fine with no problems at all when I opened or
modified either one. ANYONE???

Excel version? Is it ONLY this one workbook? If so, it may be corrupt. Try
Open Office.

In addition to the problem TerryMC noted, whenever I use Word the cursor
stays at the top of the screen and can only be moved using the down arrow
buttons. The mouse, cntrl keys, etc. are inoperable. I have also
uninstalled and reinstalled. Is this due to a Vista patch or update? I
refuse to use MS Word since this has happened.--
