Excel won't open from minimum state

When I click on the excel (Office 97) button the loading screen comes up
and Immediately goes to minimized state on the pop up bar at the screen
bottom. I won't come out of that state to open the screen. Any
suggestions?

I am posting my own fix for this one:

I noticed the button on the popup bar would lighten when clicked so
assumned it was open and I could not see it on the screen. Assuming
was in it I pressed "alt F" and the file menu opened on the bottom o
the screen. I went to "alt v" and clicked on full screen and it cam
up full screen. Then I clicked on the smaller screen button and i
dissapeared again. I went to screen properties on the windows mai
screen and changed the settings to 800x600 from 1024x728. In the uppe
corner of the screen was my excel program minimized so far that it wa
only the size of a large button. I expanded that back to normal siz
with my mouse and now it is working normally. How I got it so small i
the first place I have no idea. It didn't show up in 1024 mode. O
coure this took a lot of other tries before I came across the solution
but ..
