Excel won't open document

I have a floppy with several excel docs on them. There is still plenty of
room on the disk (it's not full). All excel docs will open except the one I
need (of course). I get the error that '... read only or ....' the machine
just makes terrible noises then gives the message. I have checked the
properties and it's not marked read only. I opened this file on my pc
before, now it's just freaking out. The only change was that we moved from
2000 to XP but my other excel docs will open fine on the same disk. Any
suggestions? thx.

Never ever ever ever ever ever ever open files directly from, or save
directly to a floppy, especially Excel files. Copy it to your hard drive
and open it from there - Work with it, save it and then copy it back. When
you open an Excel file it creates a temp file of the same size in the
location you just opened it from. Obviously if your file is greater than
50% of the available storage capacity, you have a small problem. From
numerous posts in thes egroups it would appear a great way to end up with a
corrupt file or disk.

Always keep a backup copy. For something that will fit on a floppy there is
no reason whatsoever not to.

Well that is great info for later, and I will in fact do what you say, but is
there anyway to fix the problem I am having now?

Did you try copying it your hard drive and opening from there? If so what
message did you get?

Are you able to email me the file, as I will happily try and recover it for
you if you like - Depends on how sensitive your data is.

Anyway, offer is there, and my email addy is (e-mail address removed)

You just need to ditch the Spam trap bit.
