i have office 2003, and every thing is working except excel. when i try to
open it it tells me to "find an alternate path to a folder containing the
installation package pro11.msi"
but when i locate the file and click ok, it tells me it's not a valid
installation package. then i get "ERROR 1706"
i don't really know what to do. i've been using this for 3 yrs, and it's
just all of a sudden that this problem started.
thanks.

Same situation here.... I thought I had somehow deleted Excel from my
computer although that didn't seem possible, especially now that I see others
are having this problem.

It just happened to me too. Wish someone had an answer for us.
I know that you need an installation disk to fix it problem is that this is
a computer supplied by my daughters school and and their only solution was to
send me the restoration disks. Which I find ridiculus. I'm not losing all of
her work for the last three years just to fix Excel.

Tried to access Excel but no joy, I have encountered the same problem as other users, can't find PRO11.MSI and error 1706....I have been using Exel for a number of years without any trouble....

Whats the answer ?...
