excel window size doesn't "restore"

I can minimize and maximize my excel 97 window, but the
icon that has the double squares (restore) just minimizes
instead of still retaining it on the desktop view.

I'm thinking a file that retains the window screen
coordinates of my excel window have been deleted - just
guessing though. My other apps like Word and IE work
fine, so it must be specifically an excel associated file.

thanks,

Dave

When you minimise it by clicking the double squares try hovering the mouse
pointer over the border of the minimised bar.

Do you get re-sizing arrows you can use to you drag it back to a larger size?

Gord,

Up in the right hand corner as you know there are 3 icons,
a dash, double squares and an X. There are a set of 3 for
the total excel window and for the interior spreadsheet.
It is the total excel window I'm having problems with.

I can only get a window full open (equivalent of maximized)
or minimized. When I hover over the double squares
(restore), it does have a little message "restore" as if
it should work. If I click on the dbl squares, it
minimizes instead of shrinking. There unfortunately are
not any arrows to work the resizing. So basically there is
no border, since it's been minimized after clicking the
double squares.

Any other thoughts please ?

Does it minimize to the Taskbar or just to the bottom of the screen? If just
to the bottom of the screen you should be able to resize it.

What happens when you click on the X at top left of title bar and choose
restore from there?

I found a couple of threads in google with the same question you have. Dave
Peterson suggested a maybe fix. Try that.

Gord,

The minimizing takes it down to the task bar, so there's
no resizing possibility of that. Also when that task bar
Excel rectagle is clicked it doesn't automatically pop
open like it should. I have to right click and choose
maximize from the menu. I'm at work now, but as I
recall "restore" is listed but not an active selection.
I will try your supplied links when I get home tonite.

thanks for helping.

Excellent.

What worked? One of the fixes at the google thread? Would be nice to know.
Could come up again for someone. Like me!

What worked was finding out the toolbar menu selection of
cascading the windows.

So with my Excel window & a Word window minimized, I
selected cascade windows (right click for the menu over an
empty portion of the gray tool bar) and it opened both
windows as smaller than full size. That recovered
the "restore" functionality to my Excel window.
