Excel spread sheet will not open fully when I double click on sho.

Since I used an update from Microsoft on line the short cut to any of the
excel spread sheets do not open fully. Only excel opens, you then have to go
file, open and find file to open again. What would have changed, these all
worked before.
Any ideas. I am using office 2003
 
In Excel, click on Tools | Options | General | uncheck the "Ignore other
applications" box | OK.
