Excel corruption when opening spread sheet from a mapped drive

We have had some clients complaining that when they open an xls spread sheet
from an email, modify it, and then save it to the network the recieve the
following message upon reopening it.

"Errors were detected in file 'N:\test\Backstop Calc_NBV BY YR NOV05.xls'
The following is a list of repairs:

Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible. Excel
attempted to recover your formulas and values, but some data may have been
lost or corrupted."

When the spread sheet is saved directly to the mapped drive or local drive
and then opened (ie not opened from outlook) there are no issues. File and
share permissions have been checked and are Everyone\full.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

We just had one of these today; the fix we found was to simply recreate
the Windows user profile. Odd, as the machine had just been deployed a
couple of weeks ago - but that fixed it. Windows XP SP2 fully patched,
Office 2003 fully patched in an AD environment.

Before you do this, obviously logon as another user first if possible
to see if it does indeed work for you. Good luck.
