excel spread sheet cell down arrow for sorting

On an excel spread sheet cell how do install the down arrow that will enable
me to sort the contents of the cell in ascending or descending order?

I think you mean the Data>Filter>Autofilter arrows.

Excel version 2003 has the Sort Option in these dropdowns.

Data>Sort on its own does not have dropdown arrows.
