Excel settings

Hi,
If this has probably been answered 1000 times, I apologise.

I am using XP prof and Excel2000. In the Open dialog box, I want to set the
default views to Detail. I also want to set the default Files of Type to
just Microsoft Excel Files.

Is there a way I can do this? Perhaps by changing a setting in the Registry?

I don't think you can change this so that it'll stick. These dialogs like to
"help" as often as they can.

When the dialog opens (incorrectly) for me, I type: *.xls in the filename box
and hit enter.

I find that quicker than finding the mouse and using the dropdown.
