I am running Office 2000 on my Windows XP Home computer

Whenever I open an excel document, I can work on it and save it, but a
soon as i go to close Excel, I get this error message. It only appear
when I CLOSE Excel.
Microsoft Excel for Windows has encountered a problem and needs t
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Details are:
AppName:excel.exe AppVer:9.0.0.2719 ModName:vbe6.dll
This only seems to happen when we close Excel when there is a documen
open. We can close it fine when there is a blank document there.

Any ideas

I have never heard of this problem before. You may wish to
contact Microsoft or the company you purchased your PC
from if it came with XP operating system.

One of the things xl does when you're closing the application is to update your
..xlb file (where xl stores your toolbar customizations).

Sometimes that .xlb file can get corrupted and cause trouble.

I think I'd close excel, then rename any *.xlb file to *.xlbOLD and try it out.

(You can use windows start button|Find/Search) to help find them all and rename
them.)

If you don't find any, you can shell to DOS

(Windows start button|run
for winNT/win2k (winXP??): cmd
for win9*, type: command

Then:

dir c:\*.xlb /s /a

You may have to change the drive letter (depending on where you installed office
and the versions of excel/windows you're using).

The /s means to search all subfolders. The /a says to show all files--no matter
what the attribute is.

(Actually, you can use /ah for Hidden attributes, but /a picked up both hidden
and non-hidden for me (win98).)

Thanks for the help guys.
The toolbar suggestion got me thinking, and I found out the cause.
I also had Adobe Acrobat Writer 5 installed. I had completely forgotte
about it.
As soon as I uninstalled that, everything worked fine. Looks like I'l
have to buy the latest version as well...

I just thought I'd post this here so if anyone else has the sam
problem, they will be able to fix it
