How do I change a file from test01.xls:1 to a normal file

I don't think file names can have a colon in them.
Are you sure you haven't opened a new "view" and
you're looking at the first one?

Pull down the Window menu and select New Window.
Does it change to test01.xls:3?

SOunds like you have multiple windows open for the same
file. If you look at the windows you have open in Excel,
you'll see test01.xls:1 and test01.xls:2. Just close one
of the windows.

I like to hit the window I don't want and hit ctrl-F4 (or even ctrl-W).

After you get to test01.xls, remember to save your workbook.
