Excel File associations broke

While in Window Explorer double click on an excel file. The app launches but
file does not open. No error reports back. File association under folder
options is set up correctly. Reloaded Office Pro 2003 with no effect. If I
launch the app first then open the file everything works fine... Any thoughts

Click once on the file you want to re-associate, to highlight it, press and hold the <Shift>
key and right click the file. Select "Open with......." from the context menu, use the scroll
bar to locate the program you want to associate the file with, Check the box "Always use this
program to open this type of file", OK your way out.
