Excel file association

Hi,

I am still unable to open the file from explorer/shortcut
after trying these (by the way - thanks)

I have changed the options / general / ignore other apps

still the same issue

Sometimes one of these works:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck
it)
--- or ---
Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows
registry to excel's
factory defaults.

I have been the victim of the same problem on a couple of occasions, the most
recent was due to an aborted office update which messed up the registry.

The first option is to try Tools - Folder Options in Windows explorer and
change the file associations of .xls file in the "file types" tab to be
excel.exe from prog files.

The second would be to play with registry but as that has failed I would
suggest the third option- an office re-install.
