Excel doc opens with Word

Save one of these files to the desktop, right click on it,
select Open With, and Choose Program. However- it sounds
as if the files being sent to her are Excel 2000 or XP
files, which will not open in an older version of Excel.
 
Actually it sounds like someone has opened the file in Word and Word autosaved
the file as a word file but with the .xls extension.
