Excel cannot save to network.

It is workstaion specific only. User can save to network
on other workstations.

Weird.

You will have to speak to your network administrator.
Which may well be you. Don't you just love manuals that say
"contact your network admistrator", I never liked the messages
that read "contact your systems programmer"..

Excel renames a file while working on it then deletes the
original file and renames the new file back to the old filename.
This interferes with networks security permissions that don't like
you renaming and/or deleting files and with AntiVirus programs.

The usual thing is to deactivate the Antivirus program to see if it
works then. If it does contact the AV vendor about Excel usage
with their software.

You can use Save As and give it a different name as a temporary
measure.

Here is a reply by Tom Ogilvy in 2000 with a lot of links you can
check out.

Hi the best way to sort this problem is temporarily disable the CA trust av sw and then you can save office docs to a mapped drive. once this works reenable the av sw and should be fine.

there probably is an option if installed remotely onto client pcs bydisbaling the protect network drives, this is what seems to be causing the problem.

also if you have alot of mapped drives in my computer that you dont use you may get this message " initilizing folders"

If you get this message double click mapped drives one-at -a time and then close you wont get this message again.

cheers

The best way to ultimately sort this problem is to go to realtime scanning options and untick protect networked drives.

AS it scans networked drives on the console and the client computers it cause huge problems with trying to save ms office documents to these drives. Unticking the protect network drives WONT compromise the AV SW security.

Any more problems let me know!
