Excel 97 crashes on closing

L

Leia

The last three days, I have been unable to close out my
Excel 97 once I have completed my tasks. I get a frozen
screen and when I con+alt+del, I get the dreaded "resources
are dangerously low" alert. I close that as suggested and I
still have to do a hard shut down.

While I use Excel, I can open, work on, save and close
individual files. This is only occuring when I close out of
the program.

Help?

Hi Leia,

This isn't guaranteed to solve the problem, but it's worth a try. Use
Windows Explorer to search all of your hard disks for files with a .XLB
extension. Delete any that you find. Excel uses these file to store
information about its toolbar configuration, but they frequently become
corrupted and cause strange errors like this. Excel will recreate new
default versions if you delete the old corrupt ones, but you will lose any
toolbar customizations you've made in Excel.

Thanks, Rob.

I searched my entire system for it and can't find any .xlb
files. As a side note, I just ran Excel in safe mode and it
closed perfectly well. But, no .xlb files on my computer.

Strange. I just don't get it.

YAY! Thanks! I redid my search trying it differently and I
found the pesky file (though it did not show the extension
in it's name).

I did as you suggested and it WORKED!

Thanks thanks and a hundred times thanks. =)
