Excel 97 Crash setting options w/Win XP

Heather

I have just installed Windows XP Pro on my system,
updated everything using Windows Update, then installed
Office 97 with SR1 and SR1. When I open Excel and click
TOOLS>OPTIONS, it crashes Excel (gives an error and shuts
down the program). Error dialog text is pretty useless..
just says "Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Thoughts and suggestions appreciated!

Sorry, I meant SR1 and SR2. However, from looking through
the links you provided, I think that what I installed was
not SR2 but the SR2 Value Pack (whatever that is). The
article you linked to doesn't really apply since I can't
even get into the Options dialog to check/change the file
path - it is set at the default as installed. I will
download and install the actual SR2 patch and see if it
has any effect. Thanks.

Dave,

Installing SR2 did fix the problem. Thanks for linking me
to the correct patch download.
