Excel 2007 crashes after saving (autosaving) in 97-2003 format

Excel 2007 (home and students ed) freezes after practicaly any attempt to
save file in 97-2003 format. The same appears after beginning of "autosave"
procedure. The only possibility to do something with the Excel file is hard
reset of the computer = Excel 2007 is unusable if you need to work in older
file format - regime of compatibility?
I have this problem on two different PCs - both with the Win XP 32 bit -
SP2CZ system with similar, but not identical configuration:
1 - Sempron 2200+, some skt A mainboard, 1GB RAM, HIS Radeon 9250 ViVo, Win
XP 32 bit - SP2CZ, Office2007-CZ, Panda2008 AV + Firewall
2- Sempron64 2800+, Asus K8N - skt 745 mainboard, 1GB RAM, HIS Radeon 9250
ViVo, Win XP 32 bit - SP2CZ, Office2007-CZ, Panda2008 AV + Firewall
Does anybody have any suggestion?

Do you have an HP printer? I have people experiencing the same problem and have traced it to the printer driver. If you have more than one printer available, select another non hp as the default printer.
