Excel 2007 Changes date stamp on Save As

When I open a file that I previously created in Excel, then I immediately
choose Save As to make a copy of the file the date stamp on the original and
new file
reflect the current date. Is there a new service release that prevents this
from happening? I do not want the date on the original file to change. The
original file does not contain links to other files.

Original file stamp should not change...

If you open a file in Excel then look at the timestamp it will show you the
current date & time but if you close it without saving timestamp reverts back
to the original value...

Test this with any file...

Then test again after SAVE AS...
Also verify that your file does not have an auto-save macro. To do that just
open it and close after sometime and check the timestamp..

Also you may test with some other file and see whether this is happening
with a particular file or all files.

I opened an old excel file with a date stamp of 1/8/2008. I closed it
immediately then rechecked the time stamp ...it still read 1/8/2008. Then I
opened the file with the date stamp of 1/8/2008, immediately chose File, Save
as and renamed the file. After I closed the new file, I checked the date
stamp of both files...they both reflect the current date. This is happening
with all files in Excel 2007, and it is not just on my workstation. A few
co-workers are the ones that brought this to my attention. Please help.

Just to make sure...
in SAVE AS you are using a new name, right?

Or you are just using SAVE AS and saving with the old name (then you should
get a warning FILE EXISTS)?

This should NOT happen...

I can't think of any reason... other than that a macro is running while
saving which saves the original and then saves to a new name...

Can you disable macros and try?

Did you disable Add-Ins?

Press ALT-F11 to open VBE and see the files listed there?
If there is anything else than your current files then that file is getting
loaded. Does it have any macros?

Humm, can't replicate that here. Original keeps the old date, Saved As
copy has today's date. Perhaps you are looking at Modified Date stamp?
