Excel 2007 bug?

This seems very weird and I can't believe that this could actually be
occurring, but here's what's happened. And, this doesn't happen for new
workbooks, but only for workbooks that I've used for awhile (some created in
Excel 2003, and one created in SPSS and exported as an Excel workbook).

1. I select a range of numbers.
2. I press the "percent" icon, to convert the numbers to percent.
3. The select numbers are translated to the "numbers" format with 2 decimal
places selected, and not to the percent format.
4. In some cases the numbers are then centered with an underline.

Again, this doesn't happen in a brand new workbook created in Excel 2007
with no other data.

Any thoughts? Any one else experience this?

I'm not sure if it's a bug or if something happened to your Percent Style.

You could try this (against a copy--or close without saving--just in case...).

Open the troublesome workbook.
And start a new workbook (one that doesn't have that trouble)

Activate the troublesome workbook
On the Home tab|Styles Group
click on the Cell Styles icon
then Merge Styles

Merge from the good workbook.

Then test out the percent button to see if it worked.

You could also change the Percent style directly.
Click on that cell styles icon
Near the bottom, you'll see the predefined styles.
Rightclick on Percent and modify it to have the number format that you like.

(Sometimes, it's just easier to merge from a workbook that hasn't had that style
modified.)

Thanks, Dave. This works. But was there something in the file translation
process (all of the problem files were created in Excel 2003 or first in SPSS
and then exported to 2007) that needs to be corrected? It doesn't happen
with any of the files created initially in 2007.

Just curious...

Does it happen with all the files that were created in xl2003/SPSS and opened in
xl2007--or just a few???

If it's just a few, it sounds like the style is the problem--not a bug????

I have a similar problem with my just installed 2007 Excel. I select a range
of cells, click "accounting" or "currency'" with 2 decimals... example: I
enter a 5... which previously would come up "5.00" Now it reads "0.05" ...
even in number or general it reads 0.05! Any help out there?
And, how can I send just one sheet from a workbook via email directly from
the worksheet..(as we could do in the good old XP version) I'm learning to
hate 2007!--

That might be

Office Button | Excel Options | Advanced | Automatically insert a decimal
point | Places: 2

If so, uncheck it.

Now can you tell me how I can email just one sheet from a workbook when I'm
in that workbook... not have to open Outlook and insert... which sent the
WHOLE workbook! the old Excel made it so easy. ..--
