Excel 2003

I have XP Pro, and recently installed Office 2003.

Word and Power point work well, but when I use Excel, it freezes right
away-- I open an existing document, start to enter data, and the cursor goes
to the select state and won't move off it. When I do Ctl-Alt-Del and "End
Program" it hesitates, and a window comes up saying it can't close it. But
eventually it does.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

I notice since I posted, that it is happening with one other program as
well, so far (Time & Chaos, an organizer program) I reeinstalled that, but
it still doesn't work.
Any other thoughts?
