At work just got upgraded to Office 2003 and Excel doesn't prompt to save a
spreadsheet if exiting Excel or closing workbook. I can't find where to
enable that feature that I had with Excel 2000 before. Please someone point
me to the right place. I'll probably feel like an idiot for not finding, but
I need to find it. Thanks! AC

And you made a change to that workbook???

This isn't usual behavior.

Does it happen for every workbook (even brand new ones)?

If it only happens for one workbook, it could be a workbook event macro that's
running that tells excel not to save the changes.

If it happens for all workbooks, it could be an application event that's doing
this.

I'd try this:

Close excel
open excel in safe mode
windows start button|run
excel /safe

Make a change to a cell
and try closing the file

Do you get a prompt?

If you don't then it could be an addin (or workbook) that gets loaded each time
you start excel normally.

Here are a couple of sites that explain how to troubleshoot this.

Chip Pearson's:
http://www.cpearson.com/excel/StartupErrors.htm

Jan Karel Pieterse's:
http://www.jkp-ads.com/Articles/StartupProblems.htm

Essentially, you move all of the stuff out of XLStart and you turn off all the
addins under Tools|addins.

Then you start adding things back one at a time and testing each time to see if
the problem is fixed. When you add something back that causes the problem to
come back, you'll have to decide what to do with that addin.

Yes, it happens in all workbooks, even new ones, even in safe mode. I'll
check out some of the references you provided and go from there. Thanks for
the input!
