Excel 2003 files are corrupted

Hi
Pls help me out. My Excel files are corrupted. I mean, it doesnt open when I
double click it, but opens from the program. Yes, I have already unchecked
the "Ignore Other Applications" and made the right associations. Even the
icon is changed -- the MS Excel icon appears within a page in the icon.
Moreover, I can open Excel 2007 (xslx), but not xls. Also, the description
stays as "XLS file" instead of "Microsoft Excel Worksheet". How can I repair
my XLS?
