I have just recently moved from Excel 97 to 2003.

There is a file which I use regularly that keeps locking.
I open the file do some work on it, save it, close it.

I might go in to open it 10 minutes later and the file is
so say locked for editing and giving me the read-only
option.

I have to re boot each time to get access again. I have
only noticed it on this file but it is the only one I use
on a regular basis.

Any ideas please?

Hi
one idea: Try cleaning the temp directory, reboot your computer and try
again

Oops, this is what the link says.

Do you have the workstations set to AutoDisconnect? This is something
that NT (and XP) is capable of.

In the Registry take a look at the AutoDisconnect value at:

HKEY LOCA
MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\paramet
ers

If it is set to zero(0) then that could explain the problem. Zero
doesn't turn it off - it sets it to disconnect in a matter of seconds

Here's what may be happening:

If they are getting disconnected then Word is unable to create a temp
file called the "Owner file". This temp file is stored in the same
location as the document and holds the user info for the person tha
has
the document open. Since Word has no way of locking the file in it's
original location it uses "Read only" to protect the original file
