Excel 2003 Damage to the file...

I have been getting the error: "Damage to the file was so
extensive that repairs were not possible. Excel attempted
to recover your formulas and values, but some data may
have been lost or corrupted." when opening certain
documents. I have checked Office Support FAQ and they
suggested to have both the earlier version of Office and
Office 2003 installed in the same PC then simply copy the
data contained in the excel document then paste into a
new Excel 2003 document. I'm sure there's a switch in
the Excel 2003 option to undo a tick and allow me to open
the document as normal.

Thank you.

Thanks for the info Kevin.

The problem I have is we receive the files on a daily
basis and the emails containing the attached excel file
are sent automatically I think. Opening the attachments
on an older version of Excel is no problem. But we have
a brand new PC with Office 2003 and it's the one causing
us grief. We really need to find a patch or a switch in
Excel2003 to configure so we can open the excel docs as
normal.

Thanks again and have a nice day.

Ed,

I doubt that there is a "switch". My guess is that your "template" that is
used to create these spreadsheet is corrupted. XL XP and beyond are fairly
tolerant.

My suggestion is then to go to your "source" template, save as an HTML
webpage. Close Excel. ReOpen XL. Open the HTML Webpage file, and resave
it. You will likely have gotten rid of the corruption.

Best regards,
Kevin
