Excel 2003 Colours

The following happens only on a workbook with two sheets open, each in its
own window:

I modify the workbook's colours in Tools/Options/Color/Modify and save and
close the file. When I re-open the file my modified colours have reverted to
the default ones.

Any ideas?

Why not create and save a default workbook in your XLSTART folder,
then it will always open exactly how you want it.

Create Default Workbook Template (book.xlt)
1. Create a blank workbook, customized with number of sheets, fonts,
styles etc.
2. Hit F12 to save the workbook, in the 'Save As Type' dropdown,
choose 'Template'
3. For the filename, type 'book' (to save the template as book.xlt in
your XLSTART folder)

This will be the default workbook whenever you start Excel.

Create Default Worksheet Template (sheet.xlt)
1. Create a blank worksheet, customized with fonts, styles, zoom etc.
2. Hit F12 to save the workbook, in the 'Save As Type' dropdown,
choose 'Template'
3. For the filename, type 'sheet' (to save the template as sheet.xlt
in your XLSTART folder)

This will be the default worksheet whenever you Insert>Worksheet (or
Shift-F11).

Don't change the colors with multiple windows into the same workbook????

I could replicate the problem using xl2003, too.

I'm not sure what you mean. Both windows are in the same workbook.

HTH,

Many thanks, JP. I only have the problem with one workbook and, in our
organisation, we've no access to our XLSTART folders.

I mean it looks like a bug to me.

So if you know that it causes problems, don't do it.

I don't think so.

The OP knows how to change the colors. The problem is when he/she changes
colors when two windows to the same workbook are open. Those changes aren't
kept.

Dave, I don't think there's a resolution to this but I think it's odd that
very little has turned up in relation to it in my extensive searches on The
Net.

That's my guess, too.

I don't recall ever changing the default colors in a "real" workbook--and I know
I don't use multiple windows very often.

I think it's a bug that happens so rarely that not many people have noticed it
(much less complained).

Thanks for your time and wisdom on this, Dave.
