Excel 2003 . . . Can't Delete Corrupted Defined Names

I have an Excel workbook that I created way back when I was
using Win 95. I used it for the years I had Win 98, and
now I'm using it under Win XP Pro. My problem is that long
ago two of the Defined Names apparently became corrupted,
and I want to delete them. When I click the Delete
option, it goes smoothly, but the names remain unscathed.
One name has a definition that refers to a non-existent
workbook, and the other contains a #REF! in it. How can I
make them go away??

You could try Jan Karel Pieterse's (with Charles Williams and Matthew Henson)
Name Manager.

You can find it at:
NameManager.Zip from http://www.bmsltd.ie/mvp

And Jan Karel reported one way to change corrupted names to valid names so that
those could be deleted.

Change to R1C1 reference style and then change back.

When you change back, you'll be prompted for valid names. Have a nice unique
prefix chosen so you can delete them easily later!

Tools|options|General Tab
is where you'll find that R1C1 reference style checkbox to toggle.

The name manager will detect you want to try and delete a corrupt name
and automatically prompt you to rename them.
