Excel 2003 autofilter drop down arrows appear in wrong row

Parrot Crazy R Us

I have 14 columns of data (only 300 rows long) with a header row (row 5).
Above the autofilter header row (row 5) I have 4 rows with some headings and
a few macro buttons placed in that area and a couple of descriptive Report
Titles there.

When I make the active cell the first row below the header row (row 6), and
do Data>Filter>Autofilter the drop down arrows appear in row 2 instead of row
5. Freeze frame is off and the sheet is currently unprotected.

I have tried everything. Can anyone help me with a suggestion?

Try selecting the header rows when you set up the autofilter. I'm guessing
you're used to selecting the 2nd row for Freeze Panes or Split

Hi,

If you don't specify the range you want to apply the filter to, Excel looks
for the highest row above your cursor that has data touching you row and
figures that is the autofilter header row. In other word, if there is data
in A4:A1 which touches your data in A5 and you are anywhere in the data on
row 5, Excel will include rows 1:4 even if A1:A4 are the only cells with
data above your data. If you want to be able to just choose Data, Filter
without having to select the range, then leave row 4 blank.

If this helps, please click the Yes button.

Cheers,
