Excel 2002 slow opening from "Look in"

This started when I upgraded Office 2000 to Office XP, I open Excel 2002,
click File, click Open, click the drop down arrow at the "Look in" and it
takes almost a minute for the items to drop down. Once it drops down
everything works at normal speed. This happens every time I use the drop
down arrow...

We use xl2k at work and I have a few sharenames mapped to drive letters.

It takes forever (well, about) for that dropdown to open. I always blamed the
network and my refusal to get rid of my mapped drives.

One suggestion I got from an IT guy was to put shortcuts to the share (using UNC
paths) and dump the mapped drives.

If you disconnect your drives to test this, you may want to make note of what's
connected!
