Excel 2002: Shared Workbook won't Unshare

My supervisor locked virtually everything in a spreadsheet
that he planned to share on network. Nearly everyone but
me could access (I have 97). Meanwhile, IT suggested that
for the time being he remove password, which he did, but I
still can't access (a side problem ... not my question).

The problem:
file shows as shared but won't let him unshare. I am not
savvy with VBA (I helped him create his spreadsheet), so
there are no behind-the-scenes programming. Also, an
unknow password kept popping up in a grayed out box under
Tools --> Option --> Transition --> Save .... We did
something (I don't remember what) and it went away ... at
least for the time being.

We finally saved file to new name ... no go... still
couldn't unshare.

Bottomline: Does anyone have suggestions to regain the
ability to unshare? He can't make changes to any sheet
w/out it.

Thanks for whatever help you can offer.
